The Buffalo Bills begin another tumultuous off-season filled with the usual uncertainty of where this organization is headed. The new owners Kim and Terry Pegula are approaching their third year as NFL team owners, and are also on their fourth head coach. During an interview on a rival network Terry Pegula disputed reports that the Bills organization is dysfunctional. He was referring to a recent article published by the Boston Globe stating that the Buffalo Bills and Sabres are national disgraces to professional sports organizations. Terry Pegula said “We are right there and we all get along so very well in both organizations.”
Now I do not dispute that it’s a very professional and great work environment at both organizations but both have mediocre records since your purchase of both franchises. The Bills in particular have been right there for 17 years of missing the playoffs. The problem has been in the organization not being able to match the right circumstance to be successful. For example Rex Ryan was an unprofessional hire based on the very fact that why bring in a coach who scrapped the #4 defense in the league. That would have been a major reason why you should not have hired him. Real Football people would have said Rex is not a good fit, and we will look for a coach who will keep the defense in place. This is one of the major issues with the structure of this organization exist at the top of it.
When are our new owners going to look at their organizational make up as the problem for the lack of success on the field? (photo- Buffalo Bills/Business First)
The only real football person is Doug Whaley who has the resume and understanding of how to build a winning franchise. He has been given the title of General Manager, but is not over the football operation. Technically Russ Brandon and the Pegula’s hold that distinction of being over the operation of this team. None of them are football people and most certainly not Russ Brandon whose decision making over his tenure has crippled the competitiveness of this team. There has been no accountability from this organization other than the head coach carousel. When are our new owners going to look at their organizational make up as the problem for the lack of success on the field? It’s time that the ownership of this team really evaluate how the structure of this team must change. If you have so much confidence in Doug Whaley give him full authority over the football operation. Until they bring this team to a professional standard they keep spinning its wheels in the sand of mediocrity.
If you have so much confidence in Doug Whaley give him full authority over the football operation.
