They Need Black Leadership: Lincoln University Historical Preservation Victory in Context
by Gloria Dulan-Wilson
Just in case you missed it, I’m posting a copy of an article that recently appeared in Philly.com in reference to my alma mater, Lincoln University.
I have a saying, don’t mess with my money, my kids, my man or my Alma Mater. Fortunately, I have classmates that feel the same way – and they’ve been working in the trenches to make sure that those of our classmates and the ersatz board of (mis)trustees, who are avaricious and greedy in nature, are not able to carry through their plans to eviscerate our campus – which is over 160 years old, and bull doze buildings that have more than stood the test of time.
Simultaneous with the saving of the time honored buildings is the battle to save Lincoln University itself from feckless administrators and Board of Mis-trustees who don’t have any real interest, concern, love or feeling for the school. Many of the 37 members of the Board of Trustees are political appointees and members in name only – they never show up for meetings, raise no funds, and are a drag on the school.
The so called “chair” has done more to hurt the school than to enhance it. And the interim President ought to be embargoed from doing anything of any decision making power – he’s neither competent, qualified or necessary. He’s a tool for the BOT who obviously have ulterior motives that are becoming more and more evident as time passes.
Following this article, I’m sharing a copy of a letter that was delivered by Morehouse College to their ersatz president – see if you don’t see parallels to what they say, and what is currently happening at Lincoln – and make are you also realize this is the exact same situation we are experiencing but the compounded insult of having a rubber-stamp spineless board, that does nothing for the school means that they should also be dismissed – in fact -throw the entire lot out – clean house, get the Lysol, and the disinfectant because Lincoln has to be de-contaminated and brought back to full health and prosperity.
Did I make myself clear? The ENTIRE BOARD OF MISTRUSTEES HAVE TO GO – let them reapply and show why and how they can be an asset and not assholes for our Alma Mater… SMH
The Alumni Association is quite competent and capable of conducting our own presidential search, and not rely on some substandard search group to give us people like Jennings and Greene.
Likewise, we will be there for the students. We have enough professionals and prominent, illustrious alumni to not have to look outside Lincoln to find someone suitable to lead the way forward. Thus far all these BOT bozos have done is try to take a stellar reputation and trash it. Fortunately Lincoln is much stronger than that – we’ve withstood the KKK, and other threats, we can certainly deal with this cancer as well. We are not, however, going to have a situation whereby the operation was a success but the patient died.
God is in the details and in the mix and He’s looking out for Lincoln, her students and the rest of us as we move forward – and He’s got things lined up so that this will not stand.
Lincoln will emerge, stronger, mightier and more powerful than ever. Parents and students can rest assured that we are working in their behalf. We love them and we love Lincoln.
Now you know I gotta say it right here, don’t you? HAIL! HAIL! LINCOLN!!!
