The Buffalo Bills enter the 2015-2016 seasons with a strange hope of optimism among the faithful fans of Western New York. Finally it looks like enough talent has been assembled to put a play off caliber team on the field. The first area of the team that I would like to look at is the defense.
The Bills’ defense demonstrated it is in good shape even after the loss of Jairus Byrd-cs
Linebacker- The emergence of Nigel Bradham and Preston Brown as two of the best inside linebackers in this league should provide a huge play making presence in this year’s linebacker corps. The only questions to me are who will be the back ups that make this roster. These following players will be in a fight for 2-3 roster spots during training camp Ty Powell, Randall Johnson, Jimmy Gaines, and Tony Steward the rookie from Clemson.
Defensive backs- Even with the loss of safety DeNorris Searcy this group should be one of the best in the league. Aaron Williams, Duke Williams, Corey Graham and Nikell Robey are some of the best play makers that we have returning to this unit. We also have depth with Jonathan Meeks, and Bacarri Rambo ready to show that they are able bodied contributors.
Cornerbacks- Stephon Gilmore and Leodis Mckelvin are both former number #1 picks in the draft and provide the Bills with a reliable starting duo on the outside. Rookie Ronald Darby is turning a lot of heads with his blazing speed, and better than expected cover skills. Also Ross Cockrell the second year cornerback is out to prove he should have been used a lot more than he was last year.
Defensive Line- Many have already said that this could be the best unit in football with Kyle Williams, Mario Williams, Marcel Dareus, and Jerry Hughes We expect nothing short of domination from this group which should lead to a lot of turnover opportunities for this team. The defense of the Buffalo Bills has an opportunity to set the tone for this entire team in my eyesight. The Bills were the only team with four members of their defensive line makes the top 100 player selection done by NFL players from around the league. If they stay healthy it could be another record setting year for this opportunistic group on game days.
In closing next week we preview the offense led by new offensive coordinator Greg Roman, and who will be the starting Quarterback???
